In his own words...
โMy love of wine happened organically while in Napa Valley for training camp when I was playing for the Oakland Raiders early in my career. There I developed a great appreciation for wine and the people around it. As my career went along, more of us players started getting into wine. On road trips, we would bring bottles and break bread together. It was an experience that bonded us.
Thatโs one of the many ways I began to see the overlaps between wine and football.ย
When you watch a game on Sunday, you just see the final output of all the time us players put in the week before, maybe even the summer before. Itโs the same with wine. You buy a bottle of wine, you open it, you drink it, and, hopefully, youโre satisfied with what youโre getting. You get to enjoy the final product, but donโt necessarily see all the work that went into it. The weather, the terroir, the blending โ and everything else that affects that bottle. There are many pitfalls that can get in your way and potentially spoil everything you have worked so hard for!ย
I approach wine just like athletics: You can bruise your hip, or dislocate your shoulder, but youโve still got to pull through on Sundays. Youโve still got to deliver world-class wines each vintage, and that's where you truly understand thereโs no substitute for hard work.
I created Intercept as a thank you to my fans. I wanted to give them high quality wine at an affordable price because they deserve it. The name โInterceptโ is a nod to my career, but also a reminder that during every moment of your life, the possibilities are wide open. You just have to go get it.โ
